THE PRODIGY
Live at Pinkpop Festival, Netherlands 05-27-1996 DVD
Concert Review
When The Prodigy took the stage at the legendary Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands in 1996, electronic music was beginning to break into mainstream festival culture, and this performance proved exactly why the band became one of the most explosive live acts of the decade.
From the opening intro into “Their Law,” the crowd is immediately thrown into a frenzy. The energy is raw, chaotic, and electrifying. Liam Howlett’s aggressive breakbeats shake the field while Keith Flint storms across the stage like a man possessed, turning the set into something closer to a punk riot than a typical electronic performance.
Tracks like “Breathe” and “Poison” hit with relentless intensity, blending rave culture with the attitude of rock and punk. The crowd reaction is massive, with thousands of festivalgoers bouncing in unison as the band unleashes one high-energy track after another.
One of the biggest highlights comes with “Firestarter,” which had only recently been released and already feels like a cultural detonation. Flint’s manic stage presence turns the performance into a pure adrenaline rush.
The middle of the show pushes the tempo even further with “Voodoo People” and “Smack My Bitch Up,” delivering pounding beats and hypnotic rhythms that transform the entire festival field into a gigantic dance floor.
The set closes with two iconic rave anthems, “No Good (Start the Dance)” and “Out of Space,” leaving the crowd completely exhausted but euphoric. The show perfectly captures The Prodigy at the height of their explosive rise during the mid-90s electronic revolution.
